"Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I
trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my
soul unto thee." Psalm 143:8
Well I guess I could start out with explaining the title of my blog. My favorite verse has always been Psalm 143:8. There is something about the freshness of morning and instantly feeling the presence of the Lord at the start of the day that I long for. It is so easy for me to get up and start thinking about everything I need to get done that day, but what would my day be like if I woke up listening for His lovingkindness? I did a little research on what exactly lovingkindess meant, and I found that Chesed which is Hebrew for lovingkindess is the Old Testament’s highest expression for love. Lovingkindess has always stuck out as a beautiful word to me. It speaks more strongly to me than if the verse just said "cause me to hear thy love in the morning." There is a tenderness to the word. I have always pictured Christ hugging me and wrapping me in his lovingkindess when I read the verse which is funny because more searching showed that the full meaning of the word consists of three parts chet-samech-dalet. Chet means a new beginning. Samech means support and protection..God's support and protection. Maybe his is why I have felt Christ wrapping his arms around me because the word literally means Christ's protection. Dalet means a door or passageway to the attributes of Christ or the likeness of Christ. All of that in one word, how freaking cool is that?
I never really thought about how the verse says cause me to "hear" his lovingkindess until recently. Usually, I am prone to say I really want to "feel" his love in this time of my life. I can read a 1000 verses and tell myself oh that made me "feel" better, but I am not actually experiencing Christ. I want to starting listening for God's voice more. I need to give him time to speak to me...so my prayer is that I hear not just feel his lovingkindess. I found this quote that pretty much sums up how I am feeling:
" Today I need to hear God’s love beating in my ear like a child does in
the mother’s womb. The sound of the mother’s heart beats 24/7 creating a
steady rhythm of love in the unborn babies ears. "
Christ's love, support, and protection is beating in my ear all hours of the day and night. I need that steady rhythm of Christ in my life right now. I just need to stop and listen.
Laura,
ReplyDeleteThis was beautifully put and I love your quote at the end about God's love beating in my ear all hours of the day and night. There is another verse in the Bible that has always given me comfort - "...hide me in the shadow of your wings.." Psalm 17:8 which always made me see a word picture of a hen protecting her young. Your word picture is wonderful and gives me something new to envision when I think of God's encompassing oversight of my life. If you ever need to talk, don't hesitate to call. I may not have answers but am always glad to listen.
Thank you so much Susan. It means a lot to know you are here for me, and thank you for sharing that verse with me. I need that support and protection from Christ right now. I'll call you soon. I love you!
